Do you ever find yourself on Sunday afternoon with a familiar ache in your belly from a weekend full of running around…eating whatever is convenient, and missing out on the routine the week naturally offers??
How are we supposed to stay on top of our goals when life is soooo crazy? And then there are those “healthy people” (you know like me…and you…) that post all these yummy recipes…and never mess up. How unrealistic is that??? What are we supposed to do??
I mean those brownies at the cookout…the drive through because of baseball, ballet, and soccer…
In the real world is it possible to have a healthy and busy weekend and stay on track so that we don’t feel like each Monday that we are starting over???
Yes!!! It’s possible…but there are a few things we must learn to do….
Control the controllable things…
Here are a few tips to make your weekends flow a little easier…
1. Water…gulp it down. At least 64 oz. If not half your body weight. It keeps you hydrated and prevents you from overeating…or it will flush out your system of you do.
2. Plan to exercise. Even if it’s 25 minutes. Than that treat you add to your day will feel less guilty. There are lots of ways to get moving. Walk the track around the ball game. Press play on a short workout DVD. Play tag with your kiddos. Just get your heart rate up!
3. Pick your 10’s. I teach this in my challenges. Make sure when you are out and about the things you choose you will enjoy. Don’t waste calories on foods you don’t like that much or that make you sick feeling. Modify things you like with healthier substitutions. Make it worth it!!!
5. Forgive yourself. If you do fall off the wagon forgive yourself and hop back on. We all do it. It’s the baby steps you take consistently that will get you to your goal. Don’t let shame sabotage your journey.
Life happens and there are no quick fixes. But with patience, planning, and support you can make lasting changes. One baby step at a time.
